Eagles’ Wings

“You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself” (Exodus 19:4).

God along brought the Israelites out of Egypt (bondage), but He also brought them to Himself (reconciliation).  Jesus did the same work on the cross.  We merely accept it and begin a relationship and an obedient walk with Him.  It truly is a simple gospel, because He does and has done all the work, we simply accept it and come into agreement with Him, His plan, and His purpose.

“The ‘eagles’ wings’ are figurative, and denote the strong and loving care of God. The eagle watches over its young in the most careful manner, flying under them when it leads them from the nest, least they should fall upon the rocks, and be injured or destroyed” (Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament; e-sword).

We serve a Mighty and Awesome God who has done the work for us.  Have you acknowledged and know in your heart of hearts that God has done all the work of reconciliation?  Does your life show it?  Are you walking in intimacy with Him?  Do you know and trust His goodness and kindness toward you or are you still trying to win His approval?  He has already approved you; He showed you that when He sent Jesus to the cross for you.  Receive His work in full today.

What can our rightful response be then to the God who has given us such a simple gospel?  When we truly come into contact with the full measure of His grace and mercy the only response we can rightly have is a lifestyle of gratitude, praise and worship, and obedience to Him.  Paul said well, “Brothers and sisters, in view of all we have just shared about God’s compassion, I encourage you to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, dedicated to God and pleasing to him. This kind of worship is appropriate for you.” (Romans 12:1 GW).
