“After he is sold he may be redeemed again. One of his brothers may redeem him”
(Leviticus 25:48).
There is a lie the enemy of your soul would like you to believe. He would like you to believe you have committed an unpardonable sin. He would like you to believe you have sinned too many times or gone back to often to the same sin after repenting and committing to change. He wants you to believe this lie for one reason. He has come to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).
Your enemy wants to kill your eternal soul; he wants to steal the truth from you; and he wants to destroy your faith in Jesus’ redeeming grace. He knows if he can rob you of the truth, you will not turn to Jesus or trust in His grace when you fall short of His glory – when you sin. He wants you to believe there is no way out, so you will walk with him in darkness.
Jesus made this statement about Satan in John 10:10 sandwiched between some very good news. Jesus speaking says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture” (John 10:9). This is where Jesus inserts the truth about Satan’s motives, then finishes with, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10b)
The truth is “[Jesus] is the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). This is the truth to hold on to. Jesus did the work of redeeming grace. The Levitical verse above is in the text which discusses the Jubilee year. This is the fiftieth year when all things are restored. However, in the midst of speaking about the seven sevens, this line is recorded and teaches us we are always redeemable. This statute relayed the truth that a brother is always redeemable at any time whenever he wishes.
“One of his brothers may redeem him.” Jesus “gave Himself a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:6). He has paid the price for our redemption. There is no sin too horrible or too recurring from which He cannot set you free. As a matter of fact, He already has set you free. You only need to receive the gift by not giving in to the lie which says it is too late or you have done too terrible a sin. It has been paid for – by His blood. Don’t let it be shed in vain, accept the free gift and be set free.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1).
